Teacher - Jim Carswell
 |
Mr. Carswell graduated with his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Toronto in 1978, majoring in voice, piano and composition. He continued his studies to achieve an A.R.C.T. in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, as well as a degree in Education and an Ontario Teacher's Certificate in 1979.
His career includes six years of elementary and secondary school teaching in Newfoundland and five years as Music Director and organist at West Hill United Church in Scarborough, Ontario. His church choir recently won the East Metro - Pickering Music Festival in the choral division. He has received three awards in music competition for choral, piano and vocal works. From 1979 to 1995, Mr. Carswell taught band and vocal music, grades four through eight at Queenston Drive Public School in Mississauga, Ontario.
Mr. Carswell currently teaches vocal and instrumental music at Sheridan Park Public School, a French immersion school in southwest Mississauga. Mr. Carswell taught piano to two members of THE BARE NAKED LADIES, Andrew and Jim Creeggan, from 1985 until 1989 and first heard their fledgling group when it started in Berne and Nada Creeggan's suburban Scarborough basement. Mr. Carswell has also received several ARTS AND LETTERS composition prizes for different genres he has written.
Jim runs a number of workshops for our students to give them confidence and to hone their skills. This is preparation for auditions, recitals and concerts that students do twice a year as part of our curriculum. |
